AmeriCorps VISTA/ HJAHC

As an AmeriCorps VISTA, my goals as the Graphic Design VISTA were outlined in a VAD while I served at Henry J. Austin Health Center (HJAHC).

The overall goal for this VISTA project was to play a vital role in improving the social media presence, expanding outreach and awareness of services and programs, and increasing the visibility of HJAHC through compelling graphics and design. This position will support the Communications team in implementing the goals outlined in the HJAHC Strategic Communications Plan and strategic marketing initiatives targeted at both internal and external audiences. The goal of this position is to contribute to the overall success of HJAHC’s communications efforts by creating visually captivating graphics and designs that enhance the organization’s social media presence, outreach initiatives, and storytelling.

Below are detailed examples of how each of the goals were met.

While given communications plans, I interpreted and designed materials as storyboarded for me. Campaigns include, STI/HIV information, Health Connections Pilot Program, company Impact Report, Teledentistry/CareQuest Grant, Department of Health COVID, and Colorectal Cancer/Exact Sciences grant.

Creation of digital tools were most utilized in the Patient Handbook and Impact Report. Daily social posts to Instagram and Facebook also enhanced digital presence by 600%.

I helped increase overall engagement through social media through the creation of more interactive media. These involved short form videos, cohesive images, and even introducing animation to some campaigns, specifically the Health Connections Pilot Program. Additional community engagement included collaborating with other organizations in Trenton (such as LALDEF and Princeton) to promote events for patients and community members.

Health Connections Pilot Program

For this program, I developed all visual material necessary while preserving specific branding styles. Not only did I create the iconography for the program, but I created the social posts, flyers, and an animation to accompany its launch.

Social Media Facelift

When I first joined Henry J. Austin Health Center, a templated social post was used. Since then, I’ve expanded the visual variety of the organization while retaining the core brand styles/guidelines.

CareQuest || Teledentistry Grant Initiative

The purpose of this grant initiative was to promote Telehealth services specifically relating to dentistry. Following grant approval and funding guidelines, a promotional video was created, in both English and Spanish, as well as a series of “Shorts” and a variety of social graphics. I filmed and edited this video while incorporating free stock materials.

Impact Report

Henry J. Austin Health Center’s Impact Report is an annual publication that reviews the fiscal year through articles, statistics, and more in its magazine like appearance. This year, I had the opportunity to help design and finalize this publication.
